LANSING, MI - What’s not to love about our job?
We get to hear the stories of incredible restaurants in all part of Michigan, sample the cuisine and then we get to tell you all about it.
But, the truth is, we also love the nomination process of our Michigan’s Best searches where you share your passion for those favorite spots.
That couldn’t more obvious than on our current search for Michigan’s Best Burger. The response has been overwhelming, and we’re loving it. Overall we received a record 503 nominations, beating our record of 354 for Michigan’s Best Diner last year.
Now it’s time to vote, which you can still do in our 12 regional polls. The deadline is noon Friday, Feb. 28.

While we count down the final hours of voting, we thought we would share some of your “passionate pleas” for restaurants in the Lansing area.

PASSIONATE PLEAS - LANSING
-Weston’s Kewpee Burger- Olive Burger is really good. This olive Burger has recently made a trip to South Beach Wine and Food Festival to compete for Best Burger! Josh Yerian
-The best burger in Michigan is located at Amy’s Downtown Diner in Perry, MI (115 S Main St, Perry, MI 48872). It is home cooking at its finest and one of the largest burgers you can get in the area. She offers five different burgers on the regular menu, Classic Burger, Classic Cheeseburger, Bacon Cheeseburger, Mushroom & Swiss Burger and Bacon Jalapeno Burger) as well as two larger burgers on the “Go Big or Go Home” menu (The open-faced chili burger with bacon & jalapenos or my personal favorite, the burger topped with BBQ sauce, bacon, grilled onions and a pickle stuffed between grilled cheese sandwiches). Amy’s Downtown Diner is a hidden gem in the area that opened in August 2018 and has been heavily involved in the community ever since. They also were voted Best Sandwiches by the Argus-Press Readers in their Best of the Best 2019. You will be missing out if you do not consider Amy’s Downtown Diner as one of the Best Burgers in Michigan. Spencer Reynolds
-I would like to nominate Jameson's Irish Pub & Grill's (Brighton, MI) Jameson's Burger. The blend of Velveeta cheese, grilled onions and Thousand Island dressing makes it absolutely deelicious! And, the burger is juicy but, not messy to eat. I will be in Brighton today and plan to stop by for my 'usual' Jameson Burger (no pickles, no tomato). Kelley Graves
-Champs Pub in Brighton should be on this list. Locally sourced meat from Marv’s Meats cooked and topped the way you want it on the flat top right in front of you at the bar. Just a really good old school bar burger and don’t forget the shoestring fries. Champs quality and consistency has stood the test of time with all of the great dining options we have in town. The beer list is the largest in the county and his signature sandwiches are also worth the trip. Try it out the next time your in Brighton! Kind Regards, John & Deb Armstrong
-The best burger in Lansing Is the Pimento Cheeseburger at The Creole in old town Lansing. Skip right past Meat (which it is right next to). The pimento cheese with the peppered haystack potatoes make it outstanding. Get some portabello fries or creole poutine to go along with it. The Creole and Olympic Broil are very close to each other and there really are no other places in Lansing that compare to these two places burger wise. Mark
-I’d like to nominate the Country Pub in Gregory, MI for the best burger. I love their burgers for the quality of meat, spicing, and you can get it anyway you want it, cheese, tomatoes, pickles, bacon, etc. They serve them up perfectly cooked. It’s just the perfect “normal” bar burger! Angela Johnson
-Jonnas Bar and Grill in Howell!! Juiciest burger I’ve ever tasted!! Not to mention the staff is amazing!! Ask for Sean! He’s Always coming around making sure everyone’s food taste delicious!! A+ burgers and more! Darlene
-I’ve had some good burgers in Michigan but the best definitely comes from EnVie in Lansing. #thebasicburger is so classically delicious and the name is definitely meant to mess with your mind. Perfectly seasoned with fresh veg if you wish and comes with the house made fries that are unlike any other French fry you’ve had as well (ask for the house made “cranch” or make them “dirty” if you want a condimentgasm) Can I say that? The burger itself is made with house ground filet mignon, New York, with some secret ingredients to make it the reason I go back. 2 seared on the outside, juicy on the inside quarter pound patties on a pretzel bun makes this burger my favorite. Plus the ambiance is a nice casual upscale feel and a great craft beer/ cocktail/ and wine selection. Feels like it should be in Chicago. They have another option, the EnVie burger which is top notch, and if you are lucky enough to get it when they announce it the day of, the Pickle Burger is quickly becoming a local sensation. -My Place Diner in Charlotte. All their burgers are fresh hand patties cooked to order. The toppings are all fresh and customized per each order. Prices are fantastic as well.
-I am a burger fanatic. I have one rule when trying out a new restaurant, try the burger first. 9 times out of 10 if the restaurant doesn’t take the time and effort and put some love into one of the most simple menu items (Aka the burger) then why should I trust them to put that effort into a more expensive entre? This being said, I came across a restaurant in Mason, Mi that has a Burger so good, you will have a hard time ordering anything else. The first time I went into this restaurant they had a “Hangover Burger” which included Bun, Patty, Cheese, Avocado, Bacon, Thin Slice of Ham, over easy egg and just for fun I added some jalapeños. After my first bite I realized this could quite possibly be the best burger I have ever tasted. I do not think I set that burger down once I picked it up. Since then, I have ordered many different builds of their burgers as they have many options, but the number 1 thing that stands out is the Beef Patty. It is by far the most juicy, delicious beef patty you could find on a burger. I have yet to this day to ask them what blend of beef is in this patty, but whatever it is should become standard for all burgers. You probably were not expecting essays for these responses so I will just end it at this. Head on over to Courthouse Pub in Mason, Mi and try one for yourself. If you do, and you do not think its one of the better burgers you have had in Michigan, just let me know and I will pay for it myself. Good luck with your search.
