What’s not to love about our job?
We get to hear the stories of incredible restaurants in all part of Michigan, sample the cuisine and then we get to tell you all about it.
But, the truth is, we also love the nomination process of our Michigan’s Best searches where you share your passion for those favorite spots.
That couldn’t more obvious than on our current search for Michigan’s Best Burger. The response has been overwhelming, and we’re loving it. Overall we received a record 503 nominations, beating our record of 354 for Michigan’s Best Diner last year.
Now it’s time to vote, which you can still do in our 12 regional polls. The deadline is noon Friday, Feb. 28.
Click on the link below to vote in any and all regions. We’ll update poll leaders later today.
RELATED: How to vote for Michigan’s Best Burger

Enjoy reading. Look for our poll winners on Friday afternoon. Visits will take place in March. Our winners will be announced in early April.
PASSIONATE PLEAS - BAY CITY, SAGINAW, MIDLAND
-D’Angelo’s has a Burger for everyone....vegan, carnivore, basic to gourmet (25 in total, with 3 different buns). The list of burgers is impressive, but so are the ingredients-the chuck is ground fresh daily from the local meat market, all of our veggies are non-GMO, and in the summer all are bought from a local farm (Heinz Farm-we love them!! #supportyourlocalfarmer). The burgers are all pattied by hand daily and all are made fresh to order.
-D’Angelo’s burgers are big...and delicious....but we strive for more than just that. We want our burgers to to be an experience; to feed your soul-not just your hunger. The sound of the sizzling patty, the smell of the bacon (also cooked fresh daily), feeling the weight of the burger (all half pounders) when you lift it to take that first glorious bite....all of the care, all of the pride that goes into each and every one-it all comes together in what we like to call our own edible art.
-D’Angelo’s burgers....they’re something special. Made by the same people (Chef Dave is at the grill everyday), in the exact same way, everyday. You can catch us at the counter, peek and see us through the it’s actually us....doing the work, putting in the hours-and we know it shows. The loyalty of the customers-the love they show for D’Angelo’s is humbling. They let us be a part of their day, of the celebrations, of their family. We constantly push ourselves to be more creative, to offer more, to be better (not just in burgers, but in all things). Kellie Berry
-D'Angelo's in Bay City because they have the BEST vegan mushroom gouda burger. Plus, they have many other great vegan burger options.
-Mussel Beach in Bay City has the best “stuffed cheeseburger” you NEED to try this one. Todd Larrow
-The best burger is at Mussel Beach juicy flavorful burger none better and great price. Mike Wendt
-I would like to nominate Stuffed cheeseburger at Mussel Beach, Bay City for Michigan’s Best Burger. The Larner Family provided me with my first job there, and if it’s not the hospitality it’s the amazing food they provide! Thank you. Damien Perez
-Best burger in Michigan has to go to The Boulevard Lounge in Midland. A great bar burger, basic but elegant choice of fresh toppings and all quality ingrediants.
-Close second is CJ’s Sports Bar in Pinconning, everything from simple bar burger with choice of 4 different buns, ciabata being my fav to Kaiser, pretzel, or brioche to multitude of specialty burgers including Michigan cherry and the rodeo burger. Choice of multiple toppings including one of the few places that has carmelized onions and avacodos, and not the smashed avacados but actual avocado slices. Their cobb salad also has got to be one of the best around too. Steve Laymon
-Let me start by stating that Barney’s Bar & Grill in Bay City has the best of everything....not just the best burger. Where do I even begin? I’ll start with the small bar, neighbor feel. Heck, I live in Midland yet this staff makes me feel like I live next door. I make the commute weekly to grab a bite to eat, chat with the locals and laugh with the staff.
But let’s get back to the point at task, and let me tell you about this burger - the real reason for this email. It is the most delicious burger one could ever imagine. This hand made patty is formed with love and cooked to perfection, with the freshest toppings only something as prestigious as “the perfect burger” could demand. From top bun to bottom bun, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. Their high quality beef and list of toppings is simple, yet covers the bases of what a true burger connoisseur would require. Pair all this deliciousness with their fresh hand cut fries, and you my friend, have the perfect meal.
But what about these locals and staff I mentioned? Well, let’s start with the locals. Bay City is known for its neighborhood bars, isolated in tight knit areas, with shop set up on the corner next door. These local patrons help these small bars, that seat 20-40 people, survive. They are welcoming, but most importantly they are inclusive. If I had this gem of a bar and grill in my backyard, I’m not so sure I’d be so willing to share with outsiders!
Now, on to the amazing Barney’s staff - that doesn’t just help them survive, they make them thrive! I’ve yet to encounter a single employee - owners included - who didn’t have the happiest smile on their face. That simple smile travels the longest distance. It makes you yearn to come back, while driving back to your boring neighborhood - that lacks a Barney’s. Customer service is #1 in my book - and Barney’s crushes it. Please take a moment and think about what I’ve said in this email. It is my hope that after you’ve read this, you are left with a hunger pain that you can only surmise can be cured by a Barney’s burger. After all...you are on the hunt for the best in Michigan. Stop by there, enjoy! Randy Johnson - Barney’s fan
-I would like to nominate Barney’s Bar and Grill for Michigan’s Best Burger. It’s a south end gem located in Bay a City, Michigan. Their burgers are absolutely delicious, and at a great price. They are juicy and full of flavor. You can’t go wrong any of them, from the Western Burger to a basic cheeseburger, they will leave your mouth watering! Alex
-Barney’s Bar and Grill, Bay City. On Michigan in Bay City, MI. The picture says it all on their Signature Barney Melt. It is the Italian grilled bread that helps set it apart from others.
-My nomination is the Farmer’s Home Tavern in Hemlock, MI. This is an awesome, fresh and over half-pound burger. I believe it won over 15 best of the best awards in the tri-cities! Steve Mulvaney
-Gabby’s Pub in Saginaw County. It’s THE BEST burger in town. Alison Taylor
-Spartan Burger at Broomstack Kitchen and Taphouse, Maple City. What makes it awesome? Brioche bun, poblano pepper, melted cheese and those house made pickles. Yum!! Brad Mullen
-Every Burger at O's Pub and Grill in Auburn is amazing. They must use the highest grade meat you can buy. They also do some amazing specials. Wade Eckenrod
-I’m writing you for inclusion in MLive’s Michigan Best Burger search. I would like to nominate Liquid Lounge in Saginaw. Not only do we have the best burger in Michigan, we have the Michigan’s best and most unique menu as you can see in the attached Menu. All of our burgers and sandwiches have one thing in common, they’re all sliders. We use one bun (a brioche for all) and each of our burgers (which we call Cowbells) use fresh ground chuck. We’re currently serving 7 burger type sliders. Cowbell, More Cowbell, Less Cowbell (Vegatarian), BlackJack, DMZ and Bat Out of Hell. One of our current McGuffins, what we call our daily specials, is an Olive Cowbell and a future McGuffins will be a Royale with Cheese Cowbell. We like to have fun here at Liquid and as you can see by our menu, there’s no reason why our food can’t be fun either.
-We do hope you give Liquid Lounge serious consideration in your search for Michigan’s Best Burger. Our Cowbells may be small in size, but they are all mighty big in flavor and originality. PJ Barerra
-John’s Bar, Munger. Corner of M-15 and Munger Road. Double cheese with everything is bursting with flavor. They also have a Big O with jalapeños and a fried egg that is fantastic!!
-John’s Bar in Munger (just outside of Bay City) has possibly the best burger I’ve ever had. It’s simple, made hot on a bar side griddle, and made to order with toppings. I’d highly recommend it and stopping there for a burger and cheap Miller High Life...in a bottle, of course, it is the Champagne of Beers after all! Tim Curtis
-Fuzzy’s, Saginaw. I nominate Fuzzy’s at 1924 Court St. in Saginaw. All burgers are 1/2 lb. hand pressed Angus ground beef. Loaded or plain, they are truly delicious. Gerard Zolinski
-I would like to nominate the Cheese Skirt Burger from Midland Brewing Company!! It comes with an actual skirt of cheese around the burger, so delicious! The meat is always cooked perfect and great taste overall!! Definitely a must try. Tiffany
-If you haven’t been to Whine in Midland to try the waygu burger, then you’ve been missing out on a gourmet burger. This burger is the gut bomb grease burger that you’ll find at your local dive bar – those are good too but this is an upscale burger made with Waygu beef and cooked to order. Whine has weekly burger features and different iterations that change constantly, there is a staple burger that is a PB&J burger. The PB&J comes with peanut butter, a bacon jam and a rotating jelly, along with fresh cut fries and a variety of dipping sauces. Chris Malecki
