Auburn native Madison Prewett announced she has split with former boyfriend Peter Weber after the two dated on a controversial season of “The Bachelor.”
She initially ended their relationship during part one of the series’ finale Monday night after a difficult one-on-one conversation ahead of a rocky meeting with his family in Australia.
Prewett, the foster parent recruiter and Auburn graduate (and oldest daughter of Auburn’s director of basketball operations, Chad Prewett) reluctantly showed up to the previous week’s penultimate rose ceremony, where Weber narrowed it down to two women. Going in, the 23-year-old expressed more doubt about their relationship following the awkward fantasy suite episode, during which she expressed her choice to save herself for marriage and told him she wasn’t comfortable with him being intimate with the other two women, Hannah Ann and Victoria.
Prewett posted about the breakup from her Instagram account, thanking people for their support and for the opportunity to experience the show, before addressing her and Weber’s relationship.
“As Peter and I have decided to go our separate ways, I am confident that we will both move in the direction of our purpose and never forget that God has a plan in all things,” she said. “I will always love and respect him. I am convinced our paths were meant to cross and we are both better because they did. @pilot_pete you are an amazing guy and I’m thankful for you. I will always be your biggest fan. And to the amazing women I met this season, I will love you for life.”
Weber also posted about the split from his Instagram account.
“Madi, thank you for your patience and unconditional love,” his post said. "You’re the epitome of a woman who carries herself with grace, stands by what she believes in, and loves whole heartedly. That love is something I feel so grateful to have felt and will take a piece of that with me always going forward.
Weber said he and Prewett have “mutually” decided to not pursue their relationship any further.
“Believe me this was not easy for either of us to be ok with, but after a lot of honest conversations, we have agreed that this is what makes most sense for the two of us,” his post said. "The love and respect I have for Madi will continue to endure.
Weber also complimented Hannah Ann Sluss, the women he proposed to and subsequently parted with ahead of Tuesday night’s finale on ABC.
“This has been an emotional experience and I am so grateful for the outreach of support that I have received from friends, family, and Bachelor Nation in the last few days,” he said. “Thank you to all of you! This is just a another chapter in my story. One I will never forget and one I will always cherish.”
Prewett and Weber hit it off immediately, as she received the first one-on-one date of the season and quickly earned frontrunner status. Their romance felt like a foregone conclusion mere weeks into the show, with Peter visiting her hometown where they visited Auburn Arena, watched a video message from Charles Barkley, did dribbling drills with Tigers basketball coach Bruce Pearl and met her family.
