For health care workers, emergency workers and medical professionals battling the new coronavirus pandemic at close range, the threat of infection is very real. As these men and women risk their lives to fight this novel outbreak, many are forced to separate from their loved ones for the unforeseeable future. In this week’s Modern Love essay, James Kuo, a hospitalist physician in Kirkland, Wash., recalls his last moments with his wife and two sons, where saying “I love you” before leaving for work felt more like “goodbye.”
While many of us are confined to our homes in hopes of staving off the virus, some who have contracted it are trying to recover at home to protect others. Jessica Lustig shares what it was like being isolated at home while her husband, who had tested positive for Covid-19, battled to recover in a single room.
