ANN ARBOR -- Joseph “Rev. Run” and Justine Simmons will host a conversation about their book, “Old School Love: And Why It Works,” at the Michigan Theater on Feb. 2.
Run-DMC’s Rev. Run said their book is based on “old-school principles,” and how love was different back in the day.
“We’re always giving tips on long-lasting, respectful love,” he said. “The biggest point is that it takes two to feel this way – if two people don’t feel the same way, it’s not going to work.”
Presented by Nicola’s Books, the event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. A book-signing will follow.
The couple is best known for the MTV series Run’s House, which documented the hip hop icon’s family life. Other reality series would follow.
Justine Simmons said she’s excited to meet people who’ll attend their Ann Arbor talk, answering their questions and offering advice. Being married to Rev. Run for 25 years, she gave two pieces of advice for a long-lasting marriage.
“You have to communicate,” she said. “It’s very important because as soon as you have a situation that you don’t like, you’ve got to talk about it.
“Another thing is, you’ve got to respect your partner. When you respect that person, it’s going to last.”

Looking back on 25 years, Rev. Run said one of the couple’s favorite memories was their honeymoon in Maui. They go back every year.
The Simmons’ children have been involved in their television shows and have tagged along on their appearances.

Rev Run and Justine will also host a conversation at the Detroit Public Library Main Branch on Woodward Avenue at 2 p.m. on Feb. 2.
