The cast members of “Love Is Blind” are following their explosively popular season with a reality TV staple: the reunion episode.
The Netflix dating show brought singles together for six weeks, allowing them to talk behind walls but not meet in person — unless, daringly, they decided to get engaged. Over the course of the show, some of the betrothed managed to prove that love really is blind. And some failed spectacularly.
Meanwhile, viewers fell hard for the cast and their many romantic travails. On Thursday at midnight, Netflix will bring them all back in the same room for the reunion special. Previews for the episode promise the kind of messy drama we’ve come to know and love from the show.
The reunion episode airs on Netflix and the streaming service’s YouTube channel. Spoilers ahead: Here’s everything you need to know about the show’s top contestants ahead of the reunion special.
Lauren Speed and Cameron Hamilton
Lauren Speed, a 32-year-old influencer, fell in love with scientist Cameron Hamilton, 28, within days of meeting him, capturing the internet’s hearts. The wholesome duo were one of the two couples that actually made it to “I do.” Along the way, they were honest with each other about the fact that Cameron was Lauren’s first white partner, and they discussed the ins and outs of an interracial relationship. The main issues standing in their way were Lauren’s fear of losing her independence and her dad’s disapproval since he wanted her to marry a black man.
But all’s well that ends well, because Speed exclusively told The Post that they now have Sunday dinners with her dad every week.
“We are [still together,] happily married, with a little fur-baby puppy,” she says.
These days, they’re still going strong — as evidenced by their complementary power suits.
Giannina Gibelli and Damian Powers
Damian Powers, 27, heartlessly dumped Giannina “Gigi” Gibelli, 25, at the altar, saying he couldn’t handle her ups and downs. He apparently didn’t seem to mean his “I don’t” as a permanent breakup, since he tried to talk to her after. He even told her he wanted to stay friends and keep dating. But on their failed wedding day, Giannina was understandably annoyed and not having it.
Shockingly, the two have since reportedly gotten back together. But details on how they patched things up remain to be seen in the reunion special. In any case, Gigi is living her best life as a model, according to her Instagram.
Amber Pike and Matt Barnett
The other power couple to make it across the wedding finish line: Amber, 26, an ex-tank mechanic, and resident flirty boy Matt Barnett, 27. Amber was always “Barnett or bust,” as she said early on in the season — but the feeling wasn’t exactly mutual at first. Barnett had feelings for Lauren “LC” Chamblin and Jessica Batten, but ultimately put them aside for the woman who “scares the living crap out of me,” as he said in Episode 2 of the show.
One has to wonder if the early drama in their relationship drove a wedge between them at any point. This much is alluded to in the preview for the reunion. But they swear to People magazine that they’re happy as clams and even planning a second wedding.
“We were unnaturally happy and it was gross,” she said. “We were gross. We still are pretty gross.”
Jessica Batten and Mark Cuevas
“Mark is very open emotionally; for me that’s a red flag,” Jessica Batten, 34, famously said of her one-time fiancé, poor, emotionally stable Mark Cuevas, 24.
The two fell for each other early in the show and were willing to look past their age difference because they had so much else in common. But Jessica was filled with doubts on all levels. She feared commitment, she feared their near-decade age gap and she seemed like she was more into Barnett than Mark. So it was no surprise to viewers that they fell apart. As Jessica runs out of the room in her wedding dress, leaving Mark alone at the altar, you can hear someone in the crowd say, “This is so embarrassing for her.”
“We haven’t talked since the wedding day,” Cuevas tells The Post, revealing that she ghosted him after ditching him. “I reached out at some point — nothing bad, just to say, like, ‘Hey, I hope everything’s going well, I hope everything’s doing all right.’ I didn’t hear back. But to me, it’s just sending love out there. Like, ‘Hey, I hope you’re doing OK.’ And that’s that.”
Since the show’s Feb. 13 premiere, the audience has responded to Cuevas. His Instagram following has ballooned from just over 1,000 to more than 377,000 at press time.
Let’s just say, it didn’t work out with Jessica, but Mark’s gonna be just fine.
Kelly Chase and Kenny Barnes
Perhaps the show’s most milquetoast couple ended in an appropriately milquetoast way. The two seemed to get along just fine throughout the season. Kelly, a 33-year-old health coach, and Kenny, 27, first bonded over their favorite childhood book. Things seemed to sizzle right up till their wedding day, when Kelly dropped out with an “I don’t” at the altar.
Instead of crying after Kelly walked out, Kenny told the crowd how complex the situation was. So maybe there’s hope that they really were a good match and just weren’t ready for marriage. We’ll find out whether or not they reconnected after the botched wedding at the “Love Is Blind” reunion special.
And even though she didn’t end up with a husband, Kelly walked away from the show with a few more friends.
