EDGEWATER, MD — Police say an adult male soccer coach tried to kiss one of his female players, who is a minor, on Thursday morning. The incident happened in the parking lot of South River High school, a police report says. The accused man, Kevin Clark Lyons, is 52.

The attempt came shortly after the team's practice at the school ended at 8 a.m., the girl said. Police responded to the call around 8:45 a.m. and interviewed the victim.

The girl says she was sitting in her car with her door open, talking to Lyons. She noted that the coach then said "Hey," and the player to turn her head toward Lyons.

He then leaned in, trying to kiss her, the report said. Police say the girl turned her head away, and Lyons kissed her on the cheek.

"No," the coach said, according to the report.

"No," the victim responded, per a police description of the incident.

Authorities say Lyons then walked back to his car, before returning soon after. Officers claim that Lyons told the girl "Let's not make a big deal about this."

The Anne Arundel County Police Department says detectives conducted multiple interviews and found "digital evidence" backing up the claims.

Lyons lives in the 4400 block of Indigo Lane in Harwood. He faces a second-degree assault charge, which is a misdemeanor. Police issued a summons for Lyons on Friday.

A peace order was also filed against Lyons on Thursday. These mandates are similar to restraining orders in their ability to prevent aggressive behavior.

Lyons had a hearing for the peace order Thursday afternoon. He has a final hearing next Thursday. If adopted as is, the peace order would prohibit contacting or abusing the plaintiff. The order would also outlaw entering the filer's home and going to the school.

Peace orders do not name the filing party, so it is not legally known who requested the document.

Detectives are still investigating. They ask other potential victims and anybody with information to call the Anne Arundel County Child Abuse Unit at (410) 222-4733. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling (410) 222-4700.
