CNY Inspirations: The song of love - syracuse.com

This feature is coordinated by The Post-Standard/Syracuse.com and InterFaith Works of CNY. Follow this theme and author posted Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Think how much of our music is about Love, from Broadway and pop to folk music. “Where is love?” sings young Oliver Twist. The Troggs responded, “Love is all around,” and John Denver sang, “I know that love is everywhere…” The Eagles declared “Love will keep us alive,” while the Beatles proclaimed “All you need is love!”

In a sense, that’s true – all we need is love – but it has to be a certain kind of love, the love that, as the Christian Scriptures remind us in I Corinthians 13, is “patient and kind, rejoices in truth, and bears, believes, hopes and endures all things.” That kind of Love is hard work because it doesn’t come naturally.

Over the next two years, the Community Campaign for Love will celebrate those doing the hard work of putting Love into action. Find out how to add your voice to that song of love at cc4love.org!

Rev. Suzi Harriff, an American Baptist Pastor and Music Minister, serves churches in Syracuse, Otter Lake and Rwanda, and teaches at Bethel Bible Institute and Northeastern Seminary.
