Q: I’m about to have a baby during this pandemic. I’m feeling extremely nervous for my health and my brand new baby. What can I do to help enjoy this exciting time of my life?
A: “It is totally normal to feel all of those things, especially during such a big transition in your life and with the current events. I think it is very important to talk to your doctor about how you’re feeling so they can support you before, during, and after labor. It is so helpful to trust and be on the same page as your doctor, now more than ever. Also, talk to someone else that you trust — perhaps your partner, you best friend, a family member, your neighbor, or anyone else. I’d suggest to have that same person that you trust deliver most of the current events to you during this time. It can be easy to kind of fall into a rabbit hole and the more you read the easier it can be to become afraid and fearful. However, just know that you are going to have a beautiful healthy baby whom will be loved. Also, these current events are not permanent. For the beginning of your postpartum days (and probably a bit longer because of everything going on), you’ll probably want to stay home anyway. However, staying home doesn’t mean isolated. It’s important to facetime, zoom, text, email, whatever you choose to do to stay connected with friends, family, and others than you trust. Stay positive and focus on your baby.”
