Since How I Met Your Mother revolves around the long story of how Ted met his wife, there were bound to be plenty of failed romances. Tracy was perfect for Ted in every way, but in the series finale, Ted reunited with Robin years after the mother had passed.
But Ted wasn't the only one who had dalliances and relationships, and there are plenty of epic moments between all the couples in the series. How I Met Your Mother pulled off some pretty incredible kiss scenes, and there are plenty of smooches that stood out during the show.
8 Zoey Finds Out Ted Loves Her
It wasn't a long relationship, but Ted and Zoey did go from enemies to friends to lovers. They became rivals after Zoey tried to stop GNB from tearing down an old building to replace it with their headquarters. Ted was the lead architect on the project, causing him and Zoey to be at each other's throats.
Despite their differences, they form a friendship and start to fall for each other. But Ted thinks Zoey is still married to the Captain and pushes her away. While arguing, Zoey receives a call from Marshall who reveals that Ted's in love with her, and Marshall calls Ted to let him know that Zoey and her husband split. They both look at each other and kiss, and Marshall's family — who are together coping with a loss — cheers on the other side of the phone.
7 Barney And Robin Get Engaged
In a heartwarming scene, everything that had happened during the first half of the season begins to make sense. Barney's relationship with Patrice and his strange behavior was the final play in his playbook, which he called "The Robin."
Robin thought she was going to the top of the World Wide News Building to stop Barney from proposing to Patrice when she was really walking into her own proposal. Robin is angry at Barney for manipulating her, but when he gets down on one knee, she doesn't hesitate to say yes.
6 Ted And Tracy's First Date
Sparks flew when Ted shared his first kiss with the mother, and it was obvious from the moment they pulled away that Ted knew he finally found the real thing. Shortly into their first date, Tracy realized she wasn't ready to get back out there. They walk back to Tracy's apartment but end up completely lost in their conversation.
When they reach her building, Ted and Tracy both realize they don't want to end the night, and Tracy steps forward and kisses him. They decide to continue their walk, but Ted gazes at Tracy and tells her he's remembering the moment.
5 Barney And Robin Confess Their Feelings
While it's technically not their first kiss, it sure feels like it. Barney and Robin previously hooked up, but at the time, it didn't seem to be more than that. After over a year of Barney struggling to tell Robin how he feels about her, the truth comes out.
Robin and Barney are afraid of commitment, and they go back and forth professing their love and rejecting each other. Eventually, they both give up and have an epic makeout session in a hospital room.
4 Ted Finds Victoria
There were several fans of How I Met Your Mother who were rooting for Victoria to be the title character. The show's creator even admitted that Victoria almost became the mom, and would have been if the show had been canceled before Tracy was introduced.
When Ted and Victoria first meet, they decide to have a romantic night and then never see each other again. But Ted can't get Victoria out of his head and he tracks her down to her bakery. Ted comes inside, and Victoria says, "Thank God," before they rush to each other and kiss.
3 Tracy And Ted Get Married
The entire show was building up to the moment Ted and Tracy kissed and became husband and wife. Ted had gotten engaged before, so nothing was written in stone until he kissed the bride. When it comes to romance, Ted is a more traditional character.
He wanted to fall in love, get engaged, get married, and have kids, in that order. Because Tracy got pregnant before their wedding date, the wedding got pushed until years after they already had children. It wasn't what anyone was expecting, which is what made it so special.
2 Lily And Marshall Get Back Together
It may have been the story of how Ted met his wife, but Lily and Marshall's relationship was the grounding force of the show. Their love and unwavering loyalty to each other brought even Barney to tears, and there was never a problem that they couldn't work through. When Lily realizes that she's getting married before she's accomplished any of her goals, she leaves Marshall to join an art program in San Francisco.
She regrets her decision almost immediately, but it takes time for her to earn back Marshall's trust. After Lily jumps through a ridiculous amount of hoops to spy on Marshall's date, he realizes how much he missed Lily and her wackiness. They grab each other and kiss on the same steps that Ted found Marshall on after Lily left him.
1 Ted Makes It Rain For Robin
Despite not being the most popular couple, the moment that Ted and Robin finally get together is the best kiss of the series. The music, the rain, and the actors' performance were incredible. To keep Robin from going on a camping trip, Ted spends all afternoon doing a rain dance. Whether he's responsible for the weather is debatable, but Ted's plan is a success.
He shows up outside Robin's apartment soaking wet, and she looks at the blue French horn on her wall before deciding to go outside. When she opens the door and sees Ted already there, they grab each other and kiss, both soaking from the rain but not caring at all.
