It turns out Jane Fonda does kiss and tell. In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Grace and Frankie star dished on the best kiss she’s ever had—which is a big deal, considering the list of people she’s smooched (on and off-screen) is admittedly a long one.
The story came up during a game called, “Best, Worst, First” in which an automatic generator chooses a topic to go along with each category. For “Best,” Fallon landed on “Kiss.” And believe it or not, Fonda’s favorite kiss was actually her first.
At the time, she was in summer stock theatre in Hyannis Port, Maine and had developed a crush on the stage manager, James Franciscus, who would go on to star in TV’s Mr. Novak among others.
“He was so handsome,” Fonda gushed. “And he walked me out to the end of a pier and he kissed me. And the stars began to whirl and the pier began to shake, and my knees gave way and I slid down to a pile at his feet.”

The star continued: “I’ve never had a kiss like that ever since.” She said it was “like [a] Hemingway [novel]” and that “the earth shook.” Fallon was taken aback. “I’ve never heard a story like that!” he said. “Oh, my God I feel like I had my first kiss.”
In her later years, Fonda has continually been honest about her love life and how it has evolved. At 83, she’s pretty much done with sex. “I don’t have time. I’m old and I’ve had so much of it. I don’t need it right now because I’m too busy!” she told Tiffany Haddish on The Ellen Degeneres Show in October 2020.
And after three divorces, marriage is out the door, too. “I stopped at three, realizing that I just wasn’t dealt a hand that made me good at relationships,” she recently told Harper’s Bazaar. “It wasn’t until I was finally single at 62 that I began to feel whole, feel that I was where I was supposed to be.”
