Here we go. December is upon us, and Christmas is on our minds. I know — shop, shop, shop and shop till you drop. It's the most wonderful time of the year. Moreover, with 2020 rapidly leaving, we are ready to celebrate and move on.
Christmas not only puts us on track with God, but it reminds us that new beginnings are on the horizon. The old is passing away, and the new is at hand.
Jesus is the reason for the season. As Christians, this is our moment to freely and publicly shine as we express our faith. Can we unite as one body of believers? Do you remember reading the comments of Paul as he wrote to the Corinthian believers?
I Corinthians 1: 10-12: I appeal to you brothers in “the name of the Lord Jesus Christ” that all of you agree with one another so that there may be no divisions among you and that you may be perfectly united in mind and thought. My brothers, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, I follow Paul, another I follow Apollos, another, I follow Cephas, still another I follow Christ. Is Christ divided?
It's all about Jesus. No Jesus, no Christmas. As believers, we all have one God, one lord and one savior, one Holy Spirit.
How can we show the world that even though we live in different houses of worship, it is still all about Jesus? Can we take our eyes off the denomination, the leaders, the programs, the different theologies, and put our eyes on Jesus?
Paul taught us so well by his example: “I have but one quest in life, and that is that I may know him." Paul stuck with the pure gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jesus said, “The world would know we belong to him by our love for one another.”
“The love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit. If we are believers in Jesus, then we have this love in us by the Holy Spirit.”
Awesome. God took care of it all. He said love one another and then gave us his love to do it. He is amazing.
So, are we willing? With all the hate and anger in the world, can we shine with the love of God?
We will not agree on all of our doctrine and theology. No one understands or knows it all but God. Much of our human thinking is debatable.
But, we can love?
