Mark Radburn from Love on the Spectrum loves dinosaurs, moonlit nights, and the sizzle of Mongolian lamb. To find a girl he likes, Mark makes an appearance on the Netflix dating show. This program explores the world of romance for autistic individuals. Sadly, Love on the Spectrum didn't pair Mark with a girl who loves Jurassic Park as much as he does, but fans remained hopeful. After his very adorable date at the zoo with Lauren, many are wondering if they met again, to discuss penguins and paleontology.
Love On the Spectrum is a comforting docuseries that follows the stories and experiences of young adults on the autism spectrum. 29-year-old Mark is first introduced as a date for Maddi, 23, and the two get together on Valentine’s Day. The quirky Maddi likes the boy-next-door Mark, but they part ways after their second meeting. They just didn't find that romantic spark. Mark takes dating advice from his friend Ryan, who asks him to flatter a girl to get her to like him back. The two men meet up with their bowling group, but the usually charming Mark blanks out and gets tongue-tied while having a conversation with a girl. This is when he gets help. He learns social skills from Dr. Elizabeth Laugeson, at a dating workshop. The associate clinical professor, through mock-ups, teaches Mark how to keep a conversation going during a date. Mark longs to find a girl who shares his love for dinosaurs, and he finally meets Lauren, who’s super-passionate about animals. Their zoo date finds them discussing elephants and cassowaries, and even playing with penguins. This hints at some compatibility. This is where Love On the Spectrum fans think that Mark has met his match in Lauren.
In its epilogue, Love on the Spectrum shows how Mark meets Lauren for a second date... but leaves their story unfinished. Curious fans will be happy to know that Mark spoke to Touchstone Magazine about his journey so far. The resident of New South Wales, Australia confessed how he’s not always been this confident: “I was always bullied at school and people made fun of me growing up,” said Mark in the interview. “I was pretty down in the dumps for a while but I feel like now I’ve absolutely overcome that and proved people wrong through Love on the Spectrum,” added the Netflix star. He is enthusiastic about sending a message of hope and love to others on the spectrum. Mark also revealed that, sadly, things didn’t work out with Lauren. “I find that because I have autism, it’s a little bit harder for me to find love…” he shared, before elaborating by saying it’s been hard for him to find the one person that perfectly suits him.
In a conversation with Refinery29, Mark shared how his experience of attending the dating boot camp helped him embrace his confidence. “I learned to ask a lot of questions and how to talk and behave when dating,” Mark said. “Having these skills has really built up my confidence, and it’s given me a new lease on the wonderful but complicated world of love and relationships,” said the young star of Love on the Spectrum.
Mark also confessed that his goal for 2020 is to fall in love! “Everyone deserves love. Everyone deserves that special somebody in their life. Everyone deserves to have their own partner” Mark stated. Just like Love on the Spectrum’s concept, which proves that love is universal, Mark believes that: “It doesn’t matter who they are, or where they come from; or whether they have a disability. Everyone on this planet deserves love.” Mark’s love for love is admirable. It's also the exact reason that has most Love on the Spectrum viewers wish they were friends with the Tyrannosaurus Rex fan!
