In You season 3 Love Quinn's (Victoria Pedretti) character goes through some serious changes when compared to her presentation in season 2, but honestly it's for the best. Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley) first meets Love Quinn at the high-end grocery store Anavrin while Love is shopping for her dinner. Love's first words to Joe immediately disarm him when she asks "Does this peach look like a butt?". The two hit it off fast, having a silly conversation about fruit and what body parts they look like. Knowing Joe's propensity to stalk first and ask questions later, it's clear where it's going for the couple. That is until audiences find out that Love might be just as crazy as Joe.
You season 2 had an entirely new cast and made a smart addition by putting Victoria Pedretti in the role of the magnetic and direct Love Quinn. From early on it's established that Love has a co-dependent relationship with her twin brother Forty and will do anything to keep him safe. Mostly Love is presented as caring, independent, and protective of the ones she loves. Love shows no signs of violence up until episode 9 when she shockingly slits Candace's throat with a broken bottle. The next episode, titled "Love, Actually", chronicles Love's childhood and her early inclination to get rid of those that hurt her loved ones. While season 2 gives viewers a glimpse into Love's psyche, season 3 changes her character drastically; and perhaps for the better.
Since Love no longer has to protect Forty, she's essentially lost her initial objective and therefore becomes increasingly desperate and impulsive due to her sudden isolation. The twist ending of season 2 has Love pregnant and Joe moving to the suburbs with her to start their family. After having their baby Henry Forty Quinn-Goldberg, Love pours all of her time and attention into motherhood, at first. Since Love knows no one there, connects with none of her pretentious neighbors, she struggles to find purpose again. There were always hints of what Love's shown to be capable of, but Love's tense relationship with Joe only ends up amplifying her dangerous jealousy streak and massive insecurity. She's markedly more unhinged than before and racks up a kill count pretty quickly. For most characters, this downward arc would be considered unfortunate. However, in the case of Love Quinn, it works exceedingly well.
While this sudden change in behavior may seem drastic, it transforms Love into a much more compelling character, and it's worth noting that Victoria Pedretti plays Love brilliantly as part of You season 3's cast. While Love's actions are hypocritical at times, such as having an affair with her neighbor's son, it's not all that different than Joe's thin justifications of his own choices. The only difference is there's a lot more screen time of Love being her truest self than there was in the previous season. As well, Joe's narrative monologues only suck viewers into his headspace as Joe thoroughly analyzes all of Love's behaviors.
You season 4 has already been announced and after season 3's explosive ending many viewers are curious as to where the show is going from this point. In terms of updates about You season 4, it's unsurprising that Netflix is keeping their secrets pretty close to the chest. As for Love Quinn, audiences got to see her character grow and flourish into her captivating new self in season 3. It has yet to be seen what plans, if any, there are for Love Quinn in season 4.
