Kevin Love could very well be in Cleveland until his contract ends. With the moves the Cleveland Cavaliers made in the offseason, Love have a reduced role, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be of value.
Kevin Love enters the season as the Cavs’ only remaining member from the 2016 championship team. The Cavaliers signed Kevin Love to a four-year, $120 million extension in the summer of 2018. The Cavs kept Kevin Love in the hopes of being able to stay competitive, but when that didn’t happen, the intent was that Kevin Love would be a leader for the young guys they’ve added over the course of the rebuild.
All hasn’t gone as planned. Love is still a very good basketball player, but he’s done making All-Star games and he’s had an unfortunate amount of injuries the last few years, which has limited his overall impact and any hopes the Cavs may have had of being competitive.
This season is a much different situation for the team and Love. In the past if Love had an injury that caused him to miss significant time, it was a major blow that could/would sink Cleveland’s season. This year it appears the Cavs had a sense of urgency to not rely as much on Love.
Love likely enters the season as the fourth big behind Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen and Lauri Markkanen. Even taking that into account, Love can still have a solid impact as a veteran that has championship experience and is still a very good basketball player.
So with that said, what might be two realistic expectations for him for the Cavs this season?
We’ll get into that now.
