Jordun Love, model, rising hair icon, and Kehlani-approved dancer, is one of the faces of Ermenegildo Zegna’s new fragrance collection, XXX (pronounced “triple stitch”). Named after the brand’s signature stitch design, the XXX fragrances — XXX Verdigris, XXX Cyprium, and XXX Charcoal — were designed to join traditional ingredients (think: cardamom, violet, and thyme) with unexpected blends inspired by lava, carbon, and wintry ice. The Cut caught up with Love to talk banishing blemishes, waking up to the cutest alarm clock, and the best places to apply fragrance if you’re a hugger.
My first scent memory is: Probably my grandmother, who always smells like lavender. I grew up with her, and she just has this calm essence around her. Still to this day, I spray my bedsheets, my couch, and everything with lavender. I’m obsessed with lavender in the house.
Love smells like: Sunflowers, definitely. I used to tell my mom her eyes look like sunflowers, because she has hazel eyes, so sunflowers always remind me of her. My house is full of different floral scents, but I have sunflower oils and roots, and I’ll smell them and think about my mom.
Happiness smells like: French fries were the first thing that came to mind was, but I think that’s because I’m hungry right now. I think, for me, happiness smells like roses, actually. Roses make me really, really happy. I love the smell of roses, I love the floral essence of roses, and I love how potent it is when you smell it.
Friendship smells like: Eucalyptus, because it’s very awakening, it’s very in your face, but also very soft at the same time.
Heartbreak or loss smells like: Licorice. It’s bitter, but there’s a tinge of sweetness to it.
Regret smells like: Tea-tree oil. I feel like regret is one of those things where it’s very strong, it’s in your face, and it’s a smell you can’t forget. Regret is also something that you can’t forget until you move forward, and tea-tree oil kind of has the same benefits: It’s very strong. It helps get rid of the blemishes, but it has to burn it all away first.
The worst smell is: Oh my God, I hate when people smell like outside. I don’t know if you’ve experienced this but it’s just when people have been running around all day, and then they come inside the house, and they smell like outside. It’s the worst smell there could ever be.
My ideal vacation smells like: Caribbean barbecue; like a Caribbean meal being made. I can also smell a piña colada and fresh fruit. A very tropical smell would be an ideal vacation smell for me.
The first thing I smell every morning: My kitten, because she wakes me up every morning. Luckily, she doesn’t smell too bad, she smells good. That’s my girl.
I smell like: Well, I’m over here smelling like Zegna XXX Cyprium, which I’m really excited for everyone to be able to smell now. I’ve been rocking it, and I’m ready to rock it every day. It’s a very bold, yet calm scent, where you can honestly wear it anywhere and everywhere. It’s literally a day to night fragrance, where you actually get proper compliments. You know how people will say, “Oh you smell good.”? No, this is going to actually have people like, “Wow, you actually smell great.” I always apply it to the back of my ears, of course, and then I put a little bit in my hair, and I spray all over my torso and my wrists. Those are the main areas I cover, so when people hug me, they can smell every part of it.
