Vacaville City Council to consider 1-month extension of We Love Our City lease - Vacaville Reporter

After extending its lease by one month back in April, the Vacaville City Council will consider giving We Love Our City’s lease at city-owned property another extension through June 20 at its Tuesday meeting.

In 2016, the council approved an agreement to lease the property at 1040 Mason St. to serve as the administrative offices of We Love Our City, a nonprofit run by The Father’s House which provides services such as citywide graffiti cleanup, the Storehouse food distribution center and after school mentoring programs.

According to a staff report by Public Works Director Girum Awoke, the initial five-year term was set to expire April 20, but it also included two five-year extension options that were subject to mutual agreements by both We Love Our City staff and the city of Vacaville. In March, We Love Our City expressed interest in the first five-year extension, which was placed on the agenda for the April 13 council meeting.

The matter drew mixed response by council and community members, with some citing the positive work We Love Our City has done for Vacaville, while others questioned the organization’s status as a nonprofit, regulatory compliance issues and insurance coverage. Following these comments, the council voted to give We Love Our City an extension through May 20 to give the organization time to respond to the concerns raised.

Awoke wrote that We Love Our City did submit a response Wednesday, and staff is recommending the council grant another one-month extension through June 20 to allow city staff enough time to assess the response, with the matter returning again at the June 8 meeting.

In other business, the council will consider a resolution approving an agreement with Nicole Anderson and Associates for equity, diversity and inclusion training. It will also consider a resolution for a proposed community facilities district within Lower Lagoon Valley.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Zoom link is Cov.zoom.us/s/99569804654?pwd=TENqcXhWcnlmYzEwbmt0MkdkTTdWZz09, and the password is 639925. Participants may also join by phone by dialing 267-831-0333 or 301-715-8592 or toll-free at 877-853-5257 or 888-475-4499. Participants may dial *67 before the number if they wish to keep their number from being displayed on the screen.
