Love is Blind’s Matt Thomas Calls it a 'Relief' to Not Have His Story Shown - Screen Rant

Jessica Batten learned the hard way how Love is Blind footage can change your life, while Cameron and Lauren Hamilton learned how it can benefit your life. It’s a big risk agreeing to be on a reality television show. You have no control over the footage or editing. This could lead to you becoming a fan favorite or the latest reality TV villain.

The best thing that you can hope for is being someone that the producers decide not to show. However, that comes with its own risks and disappointments as well. Rory Newbrough, Matt Thomas, and Danielle Drouin were among the contestants not shown on Love is Blind season 1. The Love is Blind season 1 budget just didn’t have enough budget to follow all the engaged couples.

This meant viewers were deprived of a very interesting love triangle. Danielle became engaged to Rory but ended up having a two-month relationship after the show with Matt. Both of Danielle’s romances had a roller coaster of emotions, but they helped lead her to her “healthiest” relationship, her current relationship with her new boyfriend.  Screen Rant spoke to both Matt and Danielle to get their perspective and versions of their romance in the Love is Blind pods and out of them. They seemed to differ on the reasons behind their relationship ending. With varying views on their romance. It would have been interesting to see how the producers portrayed it.

We asked Matt how he felt about his romance with Danielle not making the final edits. He shared this:

It's kind of two parts with me. One part is relief; the relief part of me knows that I would have had no control over how it was cut and how we were presented. I know some people aren't happy with how they were cut and how they were presented. So, it's a possibility and that didn't happen, so that's good.

Also, I think it would have been kind of painful to see our story unfold, me fall in love through a wall, and Danielle pick someone else. I think, personally, a little bit of pain was saved just with our story not being featured.

He continued:

But then the other part of me thinks that people may have benefited from seeing how Rory and I navigated this situation. It doesn't have to be fighting over another human being, who you can't possibly win or own or anything like that, which I feel like a lot of these dramatic reality TV love triangles turn into. It would have been nice to show a different outcome, a different type of arrangement and interactions - one that I think is much more positive and constructive.

And, of course, I see classmates blowing up. I think Lauren's 2 million followers, people are getting on the Ellen Show and all that stuff. I think there's a part of me that would have been interested in having those kinds of life experiences, but I also never went on the show for that. My main intention was being open to love, and I think I was. I think that intention was fulfilled as well.

It's understandable that Matt feels both relief and disappointment about his Love is Blind story not making the final cut. Maybe one day, Netflix will release a special about the stuff that didn't make the cut on season 1, and we'll get to finally see Matt, Danielle, and Rory's story.
