BRATTLEBORO — A parade has become a common thing to do during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been a great way for the community to celebrate a birthday, thank first responders and medical staff, or for teachers to show support for their students.
On Thursday, the residents of Pine Heights at Brattleboro Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, in Brattleboro, were treated to a special parade involving their loved ones.
Caution tape cleared the parade route in the parking lot, and the Pine Heights residents — wearing patriotic gear — were positioned on both sides of the route and roughly 10 feet apart from each other as they waited patiently for the event to start. Meanwhile, the families gathered at Brattleboro Union High School to prepare their vehicles.
The parade was kicked off by the Pine Heights bus making the first pass and that was followed by roughly 30 other families excited to see their loved ones. They were seen climbing through their sunroofs and holding handmade signs outside the passenger windows.
The residents smiled, waved, and some even shed a tear during this joyous event as family members slowly drove by in decorated vehicles — even getting a chance to have short conversations.
