Tiger King 2 is streaming on Netflix now and episode 1 of the new series is just as wild as you hoped. In the first episode, entitled "Beg Your Pardon," audiences are introduced to many new faces who have chosen to jump on the Tiger King bandwagon. Chief among these is Texas millionaire Eric Love, who became one of the biggest forces in the 'Pardon Joe Exotic' campaign in late 2020 and early 2021.
Exotic was sentenced to 22 years in prison after being found guilty of a murder-to-hire plot to kill his long-term rival, Carole Baskin. Alongside the murder-to-hire charges, Exotic was found guilty of 17 federal charges of animal abuse.
Newsweek has everything you need to know about Tiger King 2's Eric Love.
Who is Eric Love?
Eric Love is a self-described millionaire, philanthropist, retired police officer and private investigator from Texas.
In late 2020, he became the leader of Team Tiger, a group of attorneys, lawyers, and Exotic's friends who worked together to campaign for Exotic to receive a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump.
According to Spectrum Local News, Love wrote Exotic a letter after watching Tiger King with his wife, stating he has a "great shot" at getting Exotic out of prison with a presidential pardon.
Love, with his Team Tiger associates traveled from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. to ask Trump to pardon Exotic.
Love compiled a 257-page document to deliver to the White House. Before embarking on his journey, he told local reporters "throughout the document, it's listed this will prove Joe is innocent."
Kitted out in "please pardon Joe Exotic" merchandise, they even attended a pro-Trump rally in Washington where campaigners held a huge orange, tiger-striped banner with the words "Pardon Joe Exotic."
In an awkward encounter as seen in Tiger King, a Republican supporter told Love and Team Tiger they were not welcome at the protest, and eventually, they left the lawn at the U.S. Capitol.
On their drive home, the riot at the United States Capitol broke out, where a mob of Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol to disrupt the joint session of Congress that were working to formalize President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election.
However, they did not give up hope as Trump did not officially leave office until January 20.
In an interview with The Sun, Love revealed he was hoping for news of Exotic's pardon on January 20, 2021, and Team Tiger had already organized for a limousine to pick up Exotic from prison in Texas.
However, Exotic's pardon never came and he is still serving his 22-year sentence in Fort Worth Medical Center.
