Love Is Blind: Lauren & Cameron Hamilton Didn't Expect To Wed On Show - Screen Rant

Reality TV darlings Lauren and Cameron Hamilton are easily considered the star couple of Love Is Blind season one, which took the nation by storm when it premiered on Netflix in February 2020. However, in a recent interview, the couple admitted that both of them were shocked to actually get married on the show.

Love is Blind, which has been marketed as a social experiment, puts single men and women in “pods:" plush, windowless chambers where they speak to each other without seeing one other. The end goal is for contestants to enter the pod single and leave engaged, all based on conversation alone. Afterward, contestants spend one-on-one time together in-person to see whether love is truly enough to make their relationship survive. Contestants are also required to be genuinely interested in finding love, and while Lauren and Cameron Hamilton both admitted they were open to the idea, neither were expecting to tie the knot. So why did they commit to appearing on the show with such low expectations?

In a recent interview with PopCulture, Lauren Hamilton said she "absolutely did not expect a lot" going into the show and "it was not even a thought" that she would get married. Similarly, husband Cameron was just as skeptical. "I was like, 'Who would be crazy enough to get married to some stranger they've never seen before and only talked to through a wall?'" Now, the Hamiltons have some advice for future contestants as Netflix gears up for Love Is Blind season two: No matter what happens, be open to the possibility of having your life changed forever. Aside from potentially finding love, contestants are likely to become minor celebrities. Appearing on the hit series is a one-way ticket to accruing thousands—sometimes millions—of followers on social media.

While no one could predict just how popular Love is Blind would become, even the less captivating contestants now have impressive followings on Instagram. Following the end of season one, the Hamiltons leveraged their star power for multiple ventures, such as their own YouTube series, Hanging with the Hamiltons, which garnered over 600,000 subscribers. They've been featured in the New York Times, appeared on celebrities' Instagram accounts, and just launched their own line of merch. But for some contestants, this influencer lifestyle is completely new. Before appearing on Love Is Blind, Cameron Hamilton was a firefighter-turned-scientist, but Lauren Hamilton was well-versed in the entertainment world long before appearing on the series. Prior to appearing on the show, Lauren Speed was a digital content creator and former model, and grew up with father Bill Speed, a successful media executive who spearheaded BET's Video Soul, a music video program that aired on the network from 1981 to 1996.

With this in mind, it would seem that, in addition to finding romance, the possibility of achieving stardom is always in the periphery of Love Is Blind contestants. No matter the outcome, part of the allure of appearing on a reality TV series is getting exposure and reaping the benefits, which range from televised appearances to product sponsorships. Love Is Blind, for all its emotional highs and lows, provides not only an opportunity for singles to find lifelong partners, but for average people to suddenly become household names. Who could say no?
