Spanish great Rafael Nadal won his 13th title at Roland Garros in October this year. He beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in a battle which, against everyone’s hopes, was a one-sided contest. On the personal front, exactly a year ago, Rafa married his longtime girlfriend, Maria Francisca.
Recently, when Rafa was asked how they met, he said, “I’ve known her since I was a tiny little one. I only call her María Francisca (her name from the DNI) when there is a little tension.”
When asked about his plans of starting a family, Rafa said, “I trust so (I’m going to have them). I love children. But there is a problem. I thought well when I retire …’ But of course, I thought that at 30 I would be ‘caput’, but the topic has been lengthening”.

Both of them have managed to keep their relationship extremely confidential. It’s definitely something couples can learn from in general. Although Rafa leads a public life, he has managed to keep himself far away from controversies which seems quite common these days. Therefore, it is appalling how Maria and he handle the paparazzi as far as conducting their life goes.
On being asked how have they handled the confinement, he added, “She’s better than me. In the end, she did her office hours, because she is the director of this foundation … And of course, with such confinement was work to give and give. I could only do a little physical preparation from my house and we live in an apartment.”
