Oh my! Here is an 8-year-old grey and white cat that is nothing short of awesome. Pickles just can’t get enough attention. He is in your face with his loud purr and adorably cute face pleading to be pet and loved on. His front paw gently grabs you to bring you to your important task of chin and neck rubs. You’d be in a pickle not to adopt him!
For the Love of Cats started a program to promote senior cat adoptions in 2010. Since then, almost 200 senior cats have found homes throughout Collier County with their help. Their partners are Domestic Animal Services of Collier County, Naples Cat Alliance, Volunteer Services for Animals and Camp Many Paws.
In celebration of November’s National Adopt a Senior Pet Month, For the Love of Cats is again providing funding to pay for adoption fees and provide a complete care and transport kit for senior cats over 5 years old adopted to approved seniors over the age of 55. Their year-round program promotes the adoption of senior cats that can add so much to the lives of seniors in need of companionship.
This year especially, there are so many seniors alone at home that desperately need some purrfect companionship without the initial financial burden of adoption. Studies have proven that pets add years, happiness, health, and purpose to the lives of seniors. Having such a loving partner in life that helps you get out of bed to feed them breakfast and talk to every day can be a lifesaver.
Many senior cats languish in shelters being overlooked for the younger cats and kittens. Their life has gone from a quiet sunny couch to being in a loud, sometimes unfriendly, group housing environment. They deserve more than this in their golden years. For the Love of Cats is determined to make their stay as short as possible and to help seniors both human and cat alike. We all need love. We all need companionship.

- JimBob- Found as an abandoned matted mess on the street. JimBob is about 13 years old with the most beautiful green eyes, the sweetest temperament—for an old guy—and adores being on your lap for love and petting. JimBob is a special needs cat who suffers from a hyperthyroid condition. His medication is a transdermal lotion rubbed in his ears twice a day. With good nutrition and care, he will give you years of lap warming love.
- Tom and Jerry- Both are the best of friends. Their mom died and the family was not able to give them a home. They are both 12 years old. Tom is such a clown and rolls upside down for attention and belly rubs. Jerry is sweet, gentle, and quiet.

- Bennie- Such a sweetheart! Bennie is a pretty 7-year-old brown tabby girl. Her person died. Bennie loves lap time when she wants it and really likes gentle petting. She is looking for a quiet home, filled with warm sunny places to hang out with her new person. She promises purrs of gratitude.
- Some girlfriends just come with “fun” written all over them. Cody is such an adorable, affectionate and good little 8-year-old tabby and white girl. She has been in the shelter for over 4 years! Cody just keeps getting overlooked. She is SO ready to be able to relax in a home with a lot less competition and spend her days loving on her new person.
- Ascot- This sweet boy was almost torn to shreds on the street by a dog—he almost lost his throat. After surgery and lots of stitches, he is doing much better. Black and white boy kitties are super special. They are fun, outgoing, loving and happy cats. Ascot is only 8 years old or so. He has been through so much; he deserves a chance to add his happiness to a loving family.
- Carbon- He is a big 12-year-old boy. Tall and lanky with a beautiful golden-brown multicolor coat. He is very sad and so lonely after his person died. He doesn’t understand why he is in a strange place with strange people in a small cage. He wants to be home. A nice, soft warm place with a person that he can love and will love him back. Isn’t that what we all want?
- Cornelius- Orange tabbies are just special, that’s all there is to it. They adore people and want to be with you all the time. Cornelius is a 10-year-old boy full of buttery love and purrs. He is very healthy and can’t wait to begin his new life where he can shower his new family with purrs and snuggles.
